Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment

Process Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment (PHA+RA)

Profit is often thought of as the reward for successful risk taking. Within the process industries effective hazard identification and risk assessment are cornerstones for effective risk management and decision making. Process Safety Consulting have a high degree of competence, using PHA + RA techniques to support demonstration of regulatory compliance and corporate responsibility. 


PHA+RA Overview


It is essential that companies which operate sites with major accident hazard (MAH) potential, understand the risks the pose to people, the environment, the business and the local community. This is performed by understanding the hazards (Process Hazard Analysis) and then assessing the risks (Risk Assessment).  Such techniques are relevant to sites which are COMAH and non-COMAH alike. 


There are many tools available to perform process hazard analysis and risk assessment (PHA+RA) and so selection of an appropriate technique is as important as possessing the competence in a specific technique. Whichever technique is selected should be proportionate and used to support risk-based decision making as a part of demonstrating that risks are as low as reasonably practicable. (ALARP).
